Guide

Run work and personal Cursor accounts at the same time

Yes. Run two Cursor processes with different --user-data-dir paths. Each window keeps its own sign-in, chat history, extensions state, and subscription. Persona labels those windows (Work, Personal, clients) and can reopen the right one when a project lands in the wrong account.

Steps

  1. Create one userdata directory for work and one for personal.
  2. Open both windows (Persona status bar, Cursor - Work Dock launchers, or CLI with --user-data-dir).
  3. Sign into the work subscription in the work window; personal in the other.
  4. Optionally assign repos with .cursor/persona.json or folder rules in ~/.cursor/persona/rules.json so projects reopen in the correct account.

Common mistake

Using one Cursor window for both lives forces a sign-out dance and mixes chat history. Two Profiles in the same userdata still share the same Cursor account. They do not split work and personal subscriptions.

Switch with Persona

Persona is a Cursor account switcher on Open VSX. It opens each account in an isolated userdata window, with project rules and Cursor - Work Dock launchers when you need them.
