Switch Cursor accounts without signing out

Cursor keeps one sign-in per userdata directory. To switch accounts without signing out, open a second Cursor window pointed at a different --user-data-dir. Sign into work in one directory and personal in another. Persona does this from the status bar and keeps project routing attached.

Steps

  1. Create separate folders for each account (for example ~/.cursor-work and ~/.cursor-personal).
  2. Launch Cursor with --user-data-dir pointing at that folder, or install Persona and run the setup wizard.
  3. Sign into the matching Cursor account once in each window.
  4. Switch later by opening the other userdata window (Persona status bar, Dock launcher, or your CLI alias).

Common mistake

Signing out and back in inside one Cursor window only swaps the account for that userdata. It does not give you two signed-in sessions at once. Cursor Profiles also share one sign-in. See Profiles vs accounts.

Switch with Persona

Persona is a Cursor account switcher on Open VSX. It opens each account in an isolated userdata window, with project rules and Cursor - Work Dock launchers when you need them.
